In August 2000, Virus Bulletin, a
respected international magazine on antivirus security (published in the
UK), tested antivirus scanners for Novell Netware offered by antivirus
developers from all over the world.For the second time this year Doctor Web showed the HIGHEST AVERAGE DETECTION RATE (in four tests detecting different types of viruses: "File (In the Wild)" - viruses occurring in users computers all over the world, "Macro", "Polymorphic" and "Standard"). Doctor Web was also awarded one more VB100% prize for achieving 100% detection against the "In the Wild" test-set. Please see below the table from the September issue of Virus Bulletin with the AVERAGE column added.

'We were working hard and thoroughly to perfect the program,'
said Doctor Web development team
leader, I. Daniloff commenting on the success, 'so the results
shown were not at all unexpected. But I was nearly disappointed that we
didn't achieve the 400% total having failed (although for 0.05% only)
the polymorphic viruses - normally the program detects 100% of this
virus type. I wish to underline that some other important
characteristics of the current version are also considerably improved.
In particular, scanning speed is almost two times faster. We are
continuously improving all the parameters of the program (and of all
the Doctor Web family member programs). Anyway, although to get one
more VB100% award is a great pleasure for us, the point is that the
antivirus program must detect 100% of viruses. That's what its duty
really is. But it is not the only factor that determines its consumer
quality and the attractiveness for the user. We have numerous plans in
mind. As for the viruses - we will continue catching them out. These
are we who are the masters.'
Since all members of the 32-bit Doctor Web family use the same engine and virus base, users of Doctor Web for other platforms (Windows 9x/NT/2000, DOS and OS/2), although it was the NW-version that was tested, have the same level of protection.
