In February 1999 a new antivirus program SpIDer Guard guaranteeing
reliable antiviral protection of your personal computer was released.
SpIDer's program base is Doctor Web, it is a resident guard working under
Windows 95/98, included in DrWeb for Win32. SpIDer's principal features
and options are:
A particular case is that of automatic e-mail attachment antivirus checking (generally speaking, not depending on the mail program). If the attached file is infected, the virus will be detected as soon as the user tries to open it and the system will create temporary file for the extracted virus. If the infected file is delivered via Internet or some other channel of e-communication, it will be detected immediately when creating file on the user's computer.
The above mentioned viral activity control mode is to be specially mentioned. This means that SpIDer prevents infecting even if the infector can't be identified by Doctor Web's heuristic analyser. In other words, even if DrWeb fails to detect a well disguised unknown virus in a program body, the virus will be caught by SpIDer when it attempts to activate.
While other memory-resident monitors often respond to each "virus-like" action and irritate the user with their obtrusive suspiciousness, SpIDer undertakes a heuristic analysis of a whole set of potentially dangerous operations and avoids false alarms in most cases. At the same time, intensive testing has shown that SpIDer successfully detects more than 90% of viruses "in the wild".
The program also offers a few features that make it easy to use:
