Design functionality. ADinf Cure Module, the curing companion of ADinf, cleans the computer for viruses without the aid of any latest version of a scanner. In other words, ADinf Cure Module is a universal tool. ADinf Cure Module removes viruses not knowing anything about their design and infection mechanism. Therefore, it kills thousands of the presently existing viruses and the hitherto-unknown viruses with equal efficacy. ADinf Cure Module simply eradicates a virus and restores an infected file to its preinfection status in toto. In a performance test with 7000 widespread viruses that were unknown to the program, it removed 97% of them!

ADinf Cure Module runs in three modes:

  1. creating diskinfo tables for the files in a disk,
  2. updating the existing diskinfo tables, and
  3. curing files for viruses.
In the first two modes, the integrity checker ADinf automatically initiates adinfext.exe. Diskinfo tables are created only once for a machine. This is the only operation that takes a few minutes to complete. Thereafter, tables are updated almost instantly in ADinf sessions.

For curing files, ADinf Cure Module must be started from a bootable curing diskette, which must be prepared in advance as described in the User Manual. Most importantly, the curing diskette must be write-protected; otherwise curing procedure will not be initiated. It is always a good idea to make of copy of the distributive diskette and use only the copy in day to day work. In the curing mode, adinfext.exe is initiated from the CONFIG.SYS file on the curing diskette. The user must specify the type of the ADinf diskinfo tables (personal or common) that was used in the scanning mission in which a request for curing was made. For personal tables, the path of the directory where they are located must also be specified. From the on-screen panel, the user must select files for restoration. ADinf Cure Module gives an opportunity to save a copy of all infected files or only the first successfully cured file for subsequent analysis. Copies of infected files are saved under the original name, but last two characters in the filename extension are replaced by VR, for example EXE and COM files are assigned the extensions EVR and CVR, respectively. Whether an infected file is restored to its original status or not is verified with three 32-bit checksums computed independently for the entire file.
